So I very much enjoyed this short tale of their reunion and what things are like nowadays in the land of the Samburu people. The obvious difference is in the situation — in The White Masai Hofmann chronicled a period in which she expected to be in Kenya indefinitely; in Back from Africa she knew she wouldn’t be returning to Kenya in the near future. I finished The White Masai disliking her fairly thoroughly, and I realized part way through this one that now I really do like her as she portrays herself in books yadda yadda. Having read “White Masai,” I knew the story that led up to this follow-up book.

But after reading this book, I was impressed by the bond she felt with Mama her ex-Sumura husband’s mother and others in the tribe. Let me just get my one pet peeve about the translation to Swedish out of the way. What a cop out not taking her. No wonder they made “White Masai” into a movie. Nov 12, Vesna Stojanova rated it it was amazing. I will never understand the hate against this woman who is a human being, loved, lost, moved on and is still able to look back on her old family with affection and helping them out when she can. Although this book was repetitive in parts, it’s an interesting reunion between the author and her once husband, Lketinga, and his Samburu family after fourteen years.

I never really meant to read this book, but they were selling it cheap at the library so I picked it up, figured it could be read in quite a short time. A good sequel with some lovely scenes with her Sambaru mother-in-law and family, as well as her ex-husband and lots of the friends she had made when living in Kenya.

Oddly, in most ways I think this is actually the best book of the three–especially as far as the writing goes. Ook haar ex-echtgenoot Lketinga is erg veranderd There are no discussion topics on this book yet. However, I am surprised by her parenting “skills.

Und so gibt es ein herzliches und emotionals Wiedersehen mit Mama, Lketingas Mutter, wie auch mit all den anderen Familien- und Stammesmitgliedern, die sie von damals kannten. Hopefully it will be possible for her daughter to travel and visit her family too. I don’t know if that’s her or a European thing.

Still life is like it is and sometimes love is not enough. See 1 question about Reunion in Barsaloi…. After reading the White Masai I searched for this follow up story for 3 years!

Again, the writing is not great, but Revedre is ln a writer, just a woman telling her story as it happened. To see what your friends thought of this book, please sign up. Then all of a sudden I realize how absurd and hypocritical my attitude is: I continue to be fascinated by this woman who found love in Africa and still feels such a great connection to her family by marriage there. I do respect the author for her incredible story and the risks she was willing to take for love and found it fascinating to hear how Kenya had changed in the fourteen years since she left. I was intrigued by the Let me just get my one pet peeve about the translation to Swedish out of the way.

No unnecessary dwelling on stupid things. I enjoyed going back after 14 years to Kenya with this remarkable woman and experiencing yet again her travels and relationships with the people she learnt to love.

I wished I had gotten it in the original German.

Just a moment while we sign you in to your Goodreads account. But as with the last book, Corinne becomes clearer to me all the time. There is another book “Afrika meine Passion” and Corinne Hofmann ist telling about the first meeting of fahter and daughter when she was about 20 years old.

Then, too, fourteen years down the line she’s in a different place in life than she was when she first went to Kenya. No longer in love with her husband, she however still holds him and his family in affection and is especially delighted to see her mother in law. And on the side, the movie of her first book, The White Masaaiis also being made nearby.

So why did I read this volume?
